Community Impact
Community Impact
People, not buildings and street grids, will define Barry Farm’s future.
POAH believes people’s need for decent housing is fundamental – without it, they cannot thrive and grow. POAH invests in Community Impact initiatives to build on a platform of stable housing to create opportunity for residents who call our communities’ home. Our vision for thriving communities is:
- Residents are stably housed.
- Residents can access new opportunities to enrich their lives.
- Residents can achieve financial independence.
- Community engagement, rooted in principles of trauma resiliency, guides our work at every stage.
What Residents Are Saying
"For me and my family, the relocation process was easy from the first day meeting with Tanya until I moved in almost four years ago. I can not wait to get the news that I can go back home to the new Barry Farm community! Everything that has been happening is for us. All the plans and how the buildings and property will look..this will be great! I've actually thought about packing up now because I am ready to leave this temporary place. Back home is where I want and need to be."

"Thinking about Barry Farm fills my heart. Having a strong and supportive community made calling Barry Farm my home, easy. I dream of the day that I return to see things are better and new, and that the people are inviting and unified."
Shawntay Vines
Former Barry Farm Resident and member of the Resident Neighbor Advisors
"I am very excited to move back to the Barry Farm community. I lived there for twenty-three out of the twenty-seven years of my life, met so many people ,and built lifelong friendships. I am excited about going back to something new. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with my family and friends, and an opportunity to meet new friends along the way. Barry Farm will always be home and I am excited to go back."
Kenisha House
Former Barry Farm Resident
"I lived on 1233 Eaton Road for eighteen years, but had to relocate. Immediately, I felt out of place. Barry Farm was my home. When I was growing up in the community, my friends were loyal, loving and true. When I lived in Barry Farm, I never got sick. Now, I have health issues and concerns. I am excited about the progress so far and I am READY to pack and move back. Just get my senior building ready for me."

Returning Resident Consent Form
The District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) and the Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH), it’s development partner for the Barry Farm Redevelopment, are continuing to refine development plans for the remaining phases of the new Barry Farm Community. Former Barry Farm Residents can assist in this process by filling out the consent form below, which authorizes DCHA to share your contact information with POAH so that they may reach out to you with community meeting announcements, development updates, and resident notifications as future phases begin construction, nears completion, and becomes ready for occupancy.
As we ramp up development on our community, we are working on new language and messaging to describe what’s to come.
In this form, please share words and phrases that make you think of Barry Farm. “My community feels like…”
